IPOD driver issue. (Inyuashas first instinct was to just slay it)

After a recent windoze crash, in which my ipod was still in sinc mode (do not detatch) my ipod, affectionately nicknamed "EyeFoo" locked up and refused to work.

I repeated these steps twice- toggle hold, press center 'select' button for 6 seconds etc. no dice.
So, off to the bar (the genius bar that is) at U village and managed to squeeze in at an oportune time in which the village apple guru seemingly fixed the problem. However, when I got home, the problem reoccured. I also tried using different USB ports and I am using USB2.0 .

So I backed up my Itunes and proceded to uninstall Itunes. (big mistake) Now I used the second I pod that I had bought as a christmass gift (these are 5th gen video pods) and made the attempt to reinstall the software.

I recieved the error message 1608 unable to create InstallDriver instance. return code -2147024894

So I went to apple.com and installed the latest version to disk and when I tried to install I got
1607: unable to install Installshield scripting runtime.

Following the advice of some googled querries for the beforementioned errors, I purged the startup rebooted retried. negative.

Then I did some registry hacking @ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\ 8F9A4F9D5C299824D9400F8F0FD285A0. And filtered any apple or itunes for deletion.

I also tried running Dcomcnfg.exe>...>(checked permissions)
didn't work...
Reloaded drivers for installshield from version 8 to 9 recieved error 2755.110

OK, so I'm getting a little frazzled on this and tomarrow I will schedule an appointment with the genius bar and go from there.
