Bad day

Ok this morning I took my V3 razor into the shower with me. So I ran down to the cingular shop and basically found out that it would be 1 or 2 days before I will have my replacement phone. bummer, looks like Im going to have to finally use my skype phone.

So I got some food went home and opened up the device manager and started to go through it line by line, doing wikipedia or google searches on everything I couldn't understand or remember exactly what the acronym stood for.

acpi = advanced configuration and power interface
agp = accelerated graphics port
shadowing; has something to do with methods allowing us to estimate distances (in video displays) and I didn't really understand it but there were references to dynamical systems and theory of shadowing which I will look at latter.
cga = color graphics adapter
edd = no clue, but is supported!
escd = extended system configuration data and is part of nonvolatile memory (CMOS) this is where info about plug and play is kept, it also allocates resource to extension cards and other devices. BIOS updates escd everytime the hardware configuration changes.
PCMCIA = always forget the acronym but we all know it relates to sending those lovely packets through the air, right! personal computer memory card international association.
PCI = peripheral component interface
PnP = plug and play
Looks like my BIOS vendor is pheonix technologies ltd, however a search at there website for my version brought up nada.
where do you read linux.sysinfo?
asset tag = this one was very interesting to me because dug up an article you should read.
clflush = X86 kernel compile instruction of some sort (hey Im only on the first chapter of understanding the Linux kernel OK)
cmove = conditional move instruction ?
cmpxchg8 = some kind of compile instruction that transforms an intermediate representation of the program into the final compile code.
FPU= floating point unit. Ok, ok, the math chip right?

What are BIOS handles? look like 0x0008
0x0009 etc.
2 of them were listed unknown (I like mysteries)

and procfs which wikipedia does a good job explaining.

well that is the post for the day,
Helen, I would try to call you via skype but all my phone numbers were in the sim on the V3 sorry, please email me if you want to talk.
